The school's Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) meets regularly throughout the year. Meeting dates and times are advertised through the school newsletter. The P&C also organises our school uniforms which can be purchased from the from the uniform shop.

Our school has links with a range of community organisations that support the curriculum, extra-curricular and student support programs in the school.

Community partnerships

Many local businesses work with Mitchell State School to provide access to work experience for several of the students on a weekly basis. This forms a valuable link between the community and the school whereby students can be provided with flexible learning opportunities and/or alternate learning pathways.

Our local area

The Mitchell business district is largely reliant on the cattle industry for survival. A strong local community is evident as recent years has seen the development of the arts where local artists can use their talents for the benefit of the local population. Tourism has become a thriving industry in recent years with many tourists staying in Mitchell for several days.

Indigenous community

Mitchell State School has strong links with the local Gungarri and Bidjara people. NAIDOC Week is celebrated annually at the school with a range of activities in which students participate. Indigenous Elders and guests are regularly invited to the school for events. In 2014, the Gungarri Language Program will be revitalised in the school, through the assistance and support of the Yugambeh Museum.

Mitchell Early Childhood Eduation Centre

The Mitchell Early Childhood Education Centre (Kindergarten) is situated adjacent to Mitchell State School and provides a day care and kindgergarten program for children of Mitchell and surrounds.

Mitchell Show

Each year in May, Mitchell Show Society hosts it’s annual show. Students from our school participate by providing school work for the school display. Several students also enter the horseriding, showjumping and junior art competitions as well as participating in the cooking section of the show. These students make a valuable contribution to the success of the annual local event.
