Mitchell State School was initially built in 1876, with the addition of the secondary school department in 1961. Mitchell State School’s motto ‘Quam optime’, meaning ‘Higher still’, underpins what we strive for each day – the best that we can do in all aspects of school life. A more contemporary motto, ‘Where respect and responsibility lead to success in learning and life choices’ is related to our three core school values of ‘My job, society and safety’.
Mitchell State School is situated on the Warrego Highway, 89 kms west of Roma and 181 kms east of Charleville. Mitchell is a small community largely serviced by the beef industry.
In 2013, Mitchell State School has introduced the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program.
